Formerly tha Turks, ln order to strangthen their hold upon the conquered countrties, from time to time, forced masses of Christ1ans to berome Mohammedans. The presant Mohammedan Albanians, Bosnians, Cretans, and Bulearian Pomaks are the result of that pollcy. In later times, after the Turks had come under the Influence of the Western powers and Russia, which permitted them oocasionally to interfere on behalf of the Christians, they adopted another system for the maintenance of theire supremacy over subjected races. Sir Edwin Pears, ln his book "Turkey and Its Peoples" says: "I doubt whether at any time since Mohammed captured Constantinople there was ever passed a quarter of a century without a big masacre. It has been the Turkish way or maintaining its supremacy.
More recently, in our days, Turkey has gone a step further, wthout altogethcr renouncing the first two methods. Turkey now expels en mass from its territories all unsatisfactory or undesirable elements of its population which have so far constituted a right for the neighboring States to Interfere for their protect ion.

During the eight months the Bulgarians occupied and ruled these countries both Turk and Greek stayed at home. No one was molested. Nobody protested against the Greck barbarities committed upon the Bulgarian population. The campeign of calumny ageinst the Bulgarians, the heroes in the face of the world but of yesterday, so diabolically and so successfully carried out, took the heart out of all who for humanity's sake may have desired tn protest, The name of Bulgaria had come to mean reprobation. Even the Turks joined this campaign, but they also took a leaf out of the Greek book, learned new ways and means for the maintenance of their supremacy in their country. On the first opportunity, after the signature of the Bucharest Treaty, the Turks proceeded to expel all the Butgartan population from the Bulgarian frontier down the gates of Constantinople. The Greeks were jubilant. The hated Bulgarian was a homeless outcast by the thousads, and the country which the Greek dreamed would enter the boundaries of the renovated by their Byzanine empire was cleared of the Bulgarian. So much granted. But the Turk had learned his lesson too well. Henceforward he...
