Relation between Czechs and Chech region ?
« on: October 08, 2010, 13:43 »
Is there any relation between Czechs and the Chech region in the Rhodopes?

The Czechs come from a forefather Čech....
Slavic tribe of Czechs ("Čech", pl. "Češi"

History
The Czechs are descended from ancient Slavic tribes, with significant Celtic and Germanic admixtures. The Slavic tribes have inhabited the regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia since the 6th century. According to a popular myth, the Czechs come from a certain Forefather Čech who settled at Říp Mountain. In 880

Name
The name "čeština", Czech, is derived from a Slavic tribe of Czechs ("Čech", pl. "Češi") that inhabited Central Bohemia and united neighbouring Slavic tribes under the reign of the Přemyslid dynasty ("Přemyslovci"). According to a legend, it is derived from the Forefather Čech, who brought the tribe of Czechs into its land.

Ago Mustafa, the pronunciation of of the name of the people in Czech republic is ЧЕХ and the region in Bulgaria and Greece is ЧЕЧ. The name of the region in Bulgaria and Greece is much more similar to the name of the Caucasian republic of Chechenia ;)

Thank you for your participation. I have no any prejudices in this regard.
in the above quotation, the name of the founding father's of Czechs is the same as the Cechs of Rhodopes.
I wonder if there is interest. I wanted to debate.

CH in czech language is pronounced as Х and in the name of the region it is pronounced Ч. But I really don't know what the roots of the word Chech are. Population there is clearly Slavic but the word may be is not Slavic...

Sirrio, thank you for your thought,
Relation is exist or no,
but the source is above and words are the same spelling.

But take a look: Slavic tribes (Smolyanies, Dragovites and the others) immigrated on this route and came to the Balkans at last.

Ago Mustafa, Smolyani tribe came from Northerн Russia, where a town called Smolensk still exist. Dragovites came from eastern Ukraine. Our Slavs are different from Czech Slavs, and there are no records of migration from present day Czech republic to Bulgaria or from Bulgaria to the Czech republic at this times.

A would like to translate the wikipedia article in Greek. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chech

A website about this  region doesn`t mention sth similar http://www.mesta-nestos.info/tour/region_en.htm
